Many people are convinced that if they go on a diet that they will lose weight and their lives will be great. While it’s true that if you go on a diet, follow its guidelines and keep it up, it will more than likely work for you. That’s what they’re designed to do. What makes the difference, though, is not exactly going on a “diet” but making a change in your lifestyle.
It’s great if you learn to eat the foods that the fad diets tell or send you. It’s great if you count all your points and are following the system and then you lose a bunch of weight. If you cut out sugars or empty calories, that’s great. But the point is that when you get tired of the diet, when you think, “Well, I’ve reached my optimal weight” so you slip off the diet, you’ll go off the deep-end and find yourself right back where you started. And why is that? Because you didn’t make an actual lifestyle change.
It’s more than following the rules of the actual diet you’re on. It’s deciding that you’re only going to have one treat a day. It’s deciding to have a certain number of fruits and vegetables in your meals each day. It’s deciding to cut out the empty calories and find something more wholesome. It’s finding things that you like that are better for you. When you decide to eat better, when you decide to make the change whether you’re on a ”real diet” or not, that’s when you’re able to achive your goals. Don’t just go on a diet. Change your life by making healthier decisions everyday from the foods you eat to the exercise that you get, to your overall wellness.
